(Edmonton, AB) - The Seattle Sounders defeated the Edmonton FC Monday night 2-1 to wrap up their two-game Canadian road trip.
Ben Somoza scored his first goal of the 2004 season in the 18th minute. He volleyed a Sean Michael Callahan cross past a diving Nic Stankov. The goal came in the 18th minute of play.
Stankov hauled down Jonathan Bolanos inside the 18-yard box just shy of the 30th minute. The Sounders were awarded a penalty kick and Welton delivered a high right footed shot that smashed off the crossbar and down into the goal for the 2-0 Sounders lead.
Edmonton jumped on the board late in the half when Sean Fraser drove the ball deep into the Sounders end. His right footed crossed whipped into the 18 where Kurt Bosch headed home the lone Edmonton strike.
Sounders keeper Preston Burpo made several key saves in both halves of play to keep Edmonton at bay.

(Calgary, AB) - - In a must win situation the Seattle Sounders could not get past the Calgary Mustangs as they fell 3-0 at McMahon Stadium in Calgary on Sunday afternoon. Missing several starters plus the two-goal deficit at the end of the first half was too much for the Sounders to overcome on the road.
The Mustangs scored their first goal in the 12th minute and never looked back. The Mustangs had two unassisted goals in the first half one in the 12th minute by midfielder Damir Jesic, the other on a break-a-way by midfielder Mesut Mert.

(Burnaby, B.C.) - The Seattle Sounders Women fell 1-0 to the Vancouver Whitecaps Women in W-League playoff action Saturday night at Swangard Stadium.
In a tense playoff encounter, the Whitecaps Women overcame the Seattle Sounders 1-0, to win the Western Conference Championship before their largest crowd of the season, 3,886, and advance to the W-League "Final Four" tournament next weekend in Ottawa.
Predictably, it was Vancouver's Martina Franko who was the difference, as she scored her 19th goal of the season and eighth game-winner, late in the first half. Ashley McGhee's corner kick from the left in first half-injury time was headed in powerfully by Franko.
Erin McLeod made eight saves to record her seventh shutout of the season. The win was Vancouver's 12th in a row, establishing a new team record.
Both goalkeepers were in fine form. Seattle's Meghan Miller made a brilliant one-handed stop to push a deflected shot from Amy Apps at the 24th minute wide of the top right corner. Then at the 42nd she was at full stretch to push a low drive from Amber Allen past the post.
