Thunder Rattle Seattle, Sawatzky Scores 30th Goal As A Sounder
8/28/2004
(Seattle, Wash.) - - The Seattle Sounders were rattled by the Minnesota Thunder as they fell 3-1 in the regular season finale before 4,853 fans at Qwest Field in Seattle. Sounders midfielder Darren Sawatzky scored his 30th career goal as a Sounder, but the Thunder’s three-goal lead was too large a deficit to overcome. With the loss, the Sounders advance to the post season as the fourth and final seed in the Western Conference, Minnesota claims the third seed.

The Thunder took an early lead scoring in the 7th minute of the match. Thunder midfielder Godfrey Tenoff lined an 18-yard header past Sounders goalkeeper Preston Burpo as he dove for the ball. In the 38th minute, Thunder midfielder Jeff Mateo bent a 22-yard free kick up and over a Sounder six-man wall to give the Thunder a 2-0 lead going into the half.

Sounders Advance To Playoffs With Milwaukee Loss
8/27/2004
(Burnaby, B.C.) - - The Milwaukee Wave United lost to the Vancouver Whitecaps tonight 4-0 in Vancouver. Milwaukee’s loss allows the Sounders to advance to the Western Conference playoffs for the third consecutive year.

With the loss, Milwaukee’s maximum point potential is 43 points, the same amount of points the Sounders currently have. If the Sounders lose on Saturday night against Minnesota, the Sounders would end the season with 43 points. Both Milwaukee and Seattle would both end the season 43 points, but the Sounders hold the head to head tie breaker with a 2-0-2 record against Milwaukee this season, and the Sounders would advance to the post season.

8/25/2004
(Seattle, Wash.) - - The Seattle Sounders (13-10-4, 43pts) look to capture their third consecutive post season berth when they clash with the Minnesota Thunder (12-9-5, 41pts) on Saturday, August 28th at Qwest Field at 7pm. With a victory the Sounders can clinch a post season berth and extend their winning streak to six games.

The Thunder have scored only five goals away from home. Over the past seven games the Thunder are 2-3-2, and must play the conference leading Portland Timbers before heading to Seattle for their final game of the regular season.

SOUNDERS SHUT OUT ISLANDERS 3-0 FOR FIFTH-STRAIGHT WIN
8/22/2004
(Seattle, Wash.) – Preston Burpo recorded his eighth shutout of the season and Craig Tomlinson scored his first goal as the Seattle Sounders beat the Puerto Rico Islanders 3-0 Sunday night in front of 2,911 at Qwest Field. The Sounders had little trouble dispatching the expansion Islanders and once again helped their playoff chances in getting their season best fifth-straight win.

Sounders forwards Welton Melo and Roger Levesque and good work on the flanks from Sean-Michael Callahan and Ben Somoza gave the Islanders defense fits in the first half. Welton and Levesque in particular were very unlucky in failing to give Seattle the early lead with some smart combination work.

SOUNDER BATTLE PUERTO RICO ISLANDERS, CONTINUE BID FOR PLAYOFF BERTH
8/21/2004
(Seattle, WA) - The Seattle Sounders battle the Puerto Rico Islanders Sunday at 5pm inside Qwest Field. Searching for the fifth win in a row, the Sounders need two more wins (in as many games) to assure a spot in the 2004 post-season.

The Sounders have not tasted defeat in their last four matches, dating back to August 2nd, when the streak began on the road in Edmonton. With a win over Minnesota at home on August 7th and two more wins in a home and home series with Vancouver on August 9th and 10th respectively, the Sounders have played well for the past four weeks.

The win streak jumped to four last Wednesday night in Seattle as the home side defeated the Whitecaps on a Chad Brown double overtime golden goal. The second half substitute used his speed to race to a ball inside the Whitecaps 18-yard box. Heading a shot past a diving Alex Marques, Brown's game winner came after a dramatic match that featured five shots off the woodwork and a last second second penalty kick goal in 2nd half stoppage time.
