SOUNDERS CRUISE TO 3-0 WIN OVER TORONTO LYNX

SEATTLE – Veteran midfielder Andrew Gregor scored two goals and assisted on another to lead the Seattle Sounders to a convincing 3-0 victory over the Toronto Lynx Wednesday night at Qwest Field. Goalkeeper Preston Burpo had little to do until very late in the game in recording his league-leading ninth shutout of the season.

SEATTLE- Today the United Soccer Leagues (USL) announced the Week 14 Team of the Week, honoring two Seattle Sounders. Sounders goalkeeper Preston Burpo received his first team of the week honor. In addition to Burpo, rookie midfielder Brent Whitfield appears for the second time on the USL Team of the Week. Whitfield previously received recognition in Week 11 for his goal and assists in the Sounders 3-1 victory over the Minnesota Thunder.

SEATTLE – In a battle for possession at home, the Seattle Sounders pulled through in the final minutes of the game to finalize the score at 1-0 Saturday night at Qwest Field against the visiting Minnesota Thunder. Rookie midfielder Brent Whitfield’s winning goal in the 83rd minute pushes Seattle (30 points) into sole possession of fourth place past Vancouver (27 points) in USL standings.

SEATTLE- The Seattle Sounders Women welcomed the San Diego Gauchos to Qwest Field tonight for their last match of the 2005 season. With two goals for midfielder Malia Arrant the Women record their fifth win of the season as they defeated the Gauchos 5-0.

SEATTLE – The Seattle Sounders fell to Sunderland A.F.C of the English Premier League 1-0 in an exhibition match in front of 8,502 fans Wednesday night at Qwest Field. Liam Lawrence’s goal in the 81st minute proved the difference in a closely contested match.

(Seattle, WA) - The Seattle Sounders face the Rochester Raging Rhinos and Toronto Lynx in back to back road games this weekend. Friday finds the Sounders in Rochester for a 4:35 PT kick-off and Saturday the Seattle side heads north of the border to battle Toronto at 4:30 PT.

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Seattle Sounders fell 2-0 tonight to the Portland Timbers at PGE Park in Portland. With the win the Timbers go on to the fourth round of the Open Cup to host the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer on August 3rd at PGE Park. Tonight’s match was a typical physical match between the two rivals as the fouls were 20-26, Seattle-Portland, respectively.
