PORTLAND, Ore. – The Seattle Sounders fell to the Portland Timbers 2-1 in the second preseason exhibition match for Seattle before 3,262 fans Saturday night at PGE park.
The preseason friendly marked the second exhibition match of the season for the Sounders, who travel to Chilliwack, BC to take on the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday, April 16th at 7pm.
Scott Jenkins (pictured) scored an unassisted goal for the Sounders while Scot Thompson and Luc Harrington tallied for Portland.
Thompson put the Timbers on the board first, capitalizing on a corner kick from
Hugo Alcaraz-Cuellar in the 23rd minute. Alcaraz-Cuellar teed up the corner from
the right side and found a waiting Thompson, who headed the well-placed ball
past Seattle goalkeeper James Ward for the 1-0 advantage.
The Sounders equalized in the second half when Scott Jenkins launched a free
kick from just outside the box into the back of the net. The kick was awarded to
the Sounders after Portland goalkeeper Sam Reynolds drew a red card ejection for
handling the ball outside of the penalty area.

Seattle, WA) – The newly named captain of the 2005 Seattle Sounders, defender Danny Jackson, suffered a right knee injury on April 2nd, the second day of Sounders training camp, and is scheduled to have exploratory surgery next week, it was announced today.
A Monday afternoon MRI confirmed damage to ligaments in the knee thus necessitating the April 12th exploratory surgery. Steven Bramwell, the Sounders team doctor associated with the Washington Institute of Sports Medicine, will perform the surgery.
Jackson, a Sounders defensive MVP, First Team All A-League member and star of the Sounders backline the past two years, awkwardly twisted his right knee in Saturday’s training session and will miss a minimum of six weeks. The extent of the injury and recovery period will be based solely upon the findings from the April 12th procedure.
“We’ll know a lot more after next Tuesday’s knee scope,” said Sounders team trainer, Anne Taylor. “Once Dr. Bramwell looks at Danny’s knee he’ll be able to determine the extent of damage to the knee, what type of surgical procedure will be used and the amount of time Danny will be in recovery / rehabilitation.”

BOTHELL, WA – Following just their second day of training camp, the Seattle Sounders hosted the Gonzaga Bulldogs at Pop Keeney Stadium Saturday night in an exhibition match in front of well over 2,000 fans.
Being the first exhibition match of the season, the Sounders took the opportunity to field mostly young players looking for roster spots. In fact, the only roster players starting for the Sounders were midfielders Andrew Gregor, Kevin Sakuda and C.J. Klaas. The inexperience on the field for Seattle showed as Gonzaga took the game to the Sounders and came out with a 2-1 victory.
During the first 15 minutes, both teams had difficultly controlling the ball on the fast, wet turf at Pop Keeney Stadium. As the game progressed, however, the Bulldogs began to assert themselves and work the midfield with some smart combination play. Gonzaga midfielder John Palladino was particularly effective in distributing the ball and putting the young Seattle defense under pressure. The Bulldogs were rewarded for the efforts with a goal at the 14-minute mark.

He has gladly accepted the responsibilities of “rookie chores” including picking up equipment.
