SOUNDERS UP FOR LEAGUE AWARDS
Posted 9/23/2007

Seattle Sounders Sebastien Le Toux, Kenji Treschuk and head coach Brian Schmetzer were announced as finalists for USL First Division end of season awards on Monday.

Le Toux, who tied for the league lead in scoring with 10 goals, is a finalist for the league’s Most Valuable Player award and Treschuk, who was the last preseason addition to the Sounders roster, has been nominated to compete for the Rookie of the Year title.

Le Toux will compete against Atlanta’s Daniel Antoniuk, who led the league in total scoring and assists, for the title that will be announced at the USL First Division awards banquet in Seattle the day before Seattle and Atlanta meet in the USL First Division Championship match.

Treschuk is competing with David Hague of the Portland Timbers and Jay Needham of the Puerto Rico Islanders for the Rookie of the year title.

Schmetzer is nominated for the coach of the year title for the first time since he won the award in 2002. Also nominated for the award is Portland Timbers head coach Gavin Wilkinson.

The banquet will be held at the Foster Golf Links on Friday at 12:00pm and is open to the media.

The Championship match will be Saturday September 29th at the Starfire Sports Entertainment Complex Stadium. Tickets are $25 for covered grandstand and $20 for uncovered bleacher seats. The match is expected to sell out, so Sounders fans are encouraged to get their tickets early through SeattleSounders.net or by calling 206.622.3415.
