The Seattle Sounders get their third chance of 2007 to defeat the Minnesota Thunder Sunday afternoon when the two teams face off at 3 pm Pacific Time at James Griffin Stadium in Minnesota. The match is available for viewing on USLLive.com.
The Sounders will clinch the USL First Division regular season title with a victory against Minnesota. Seattle is guaranteed a spot in the top three, but with a loss or draw will become dependant on results from the Montreal and Portland matches to claim the top spot.
Sebastien Le Toux launched himself into a tie in the USL First Division race for the Golden Boot, awarded to the goal scoring leader, with a hat trick against the California Victory at Qwest Field Thursday night. Le Toux also sits one point behind Atlanta’s Daniel Antoniuk and one point ahead of teammate Roger Levesque in the overall points scoring race.
Goal keeper Chris Eylander is tied with Portland’s Josh Wick’s for the lead in goal keeping wins with 13. His is one behind Wick’s for the shutout lead and currently is the leader in saves.
Hugo Alcaraz-Cuellar is currently second in the league in assists, just one behind Antoniuk and will be working to capture his third USL First Division assist crown if he’s available for the Minnesota match.
Minnesota is coming off a 5-0 thumping of the Carolina Railhawks Thursday night and has been in sparkling form as of late with a two match winning streak. Forward Leo Gibson scored four of the five goals against Carolina in a match that was played in driving rain and powerful wind.
The Weather Channel lists only a 20% chance of participation in St. Paul for Sunday’s match and a high of 64 degrees.
