The Seattle Sounders face off against FC Dallas in the US Open Cup Semifinals at 7pm Tuesday September 4th.
FC Dallas unveiled 2002 Brazilian World Cup winner Denilson on Saturday in their 4-0 loss to DC United. He’s expected to be available and play Tuesday against the Sounders.
The Sounders have defeated MLS opponents Chivas USA and the Colorado Rapids by a combined score of 8-1 in the last two rounds of the competition.
The 5-0 quarter-final win over the Colorado Rapids (MLS) was the largest defeat of a MLS team in the history of the Open Cup.
The U.S. Open Cup is the oldest soccer tournament in North America dating back to 1914.
The winner of the tournament receives $100,000 with the runner up taking home $50,000.
FC Dallas currently sits in 3rd place in the MLS Western Conference with a record of 11-8-3 (36 points).
FC Dallas have won only three of their last ten matches, including a 2-1 over time win against the Charleston Battery of the USL First Division in the US Open Cup quarterfinals.
The Sounders front office is expecting the largest crowd of the season to for Tuesday night’s match. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and avoid congestion. Advanced tickets can be purchased until noon on Tuesday through ticketmaster.com or by calling 206.628.0888. After noon on Tuesday, tickets can be purchased at the Qwest Field box office. Sounders youth passes and flex tickets will not be accepted at the match.
Sounders midfielders Josh Gardner and Hugo Alcaraz-Cuellar along with forward Sebastien Le Toux are expected to return to the line-up for Tuesday’s match after missing the 2-1 loss to Minnesota in league play Friday night.
Sebastien Le Toux is the US Open Cup goal scoring leader with five in he competition.
FC Dallas midfielder and leading scorer Juan Toja returned to their line-up on Saturday against C United after missing several matches with an ankle sprain. Goal Keeper Dario Sala also returned to the line-up after missing three matches with a sprained right knee.
FC Dallas goal keeper Dario Sala has allowed 10 goals in his last two starts, with four coming against DC United and six coming in a Superliga semifinal match against the LA Galaxy, who are currently bottom of the table in Major League Soccer.
The Sounders are looking for their first ever appearance in a US Open Cup Final.
The Sounders have made it to the semi-finals only once in their modern day existence - 1995.
A win tonight means the Sounders will host the US Open Cup Final on October 2nd at Qwest Field against the winner of the New England Revolution (MLS) vs Carolina Railhawks (USL- First Division) match.
