The Seattle Sounders (12-5-6 42pts.) will put their 13 match unbeaten run on the line Wednesday night when the Atlanta Silverbacks (10-7-6 36pts.) come to Qwest Field. Kick-off is at 7pm.
Seattle slid by the struggling California Victory in San Francisco on the weekend with a Leighton O’Brien penalty conversion earning the valuable three points on the road and taking the Sounders into sole possession of first place in the USL First Division. The 1-0 victory was the tenth shutout of the year for Sounders goal keeper Chris Eylander and his veteran defense anchored by central duo Danny Jackson and Taylor Graham.
The Silverbacks arrive at Qwest Field on a hot streak of their own. The Atlanta squad hasn’t lost since the Portland Timbers defeated 1-0 in Atlanta on July 21st. They feature the USL First Division points and assist leader Daniel Antoniuk, who has 23 points from seven goals and nine assists. Atlanta will leave the Northwest after the Seattle match and travel to Minnesota to face the Thunder on Saturday night before returning home.
This is the first of five consecutive home matches for the Sounders. The stretch includes Sounders bobble head night on Sunday August 26th at 5pm (a match that was originally scheduled for 7pm Saturday August 25th) as well as regular season matches against the Minnesota Thunder and California Victory and the US Open Cup Semifinal against FC Dallas of Major League Soccer.
