SOUNDERS BATTLE TACOMA TIDE IN WEEKEND EXHIBITION
Posted 7/5/2007

The Seattle Sounders face the Tacoma Tide of the USL Premier Development League at Curtis High School field on Saturday night July 7th in a special exhibition match between the Puget Sound regions two highest level soccer programs.

Kickoff is set for 7:05 PM and tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth and will be available at the gate.

The Tide feature the attacking talents of Curtis High School graduate Rory Agu and Syracuse Orangemen sophomore forward Spencer Schomaker, both of whom have tallied six goals on the year.

Kieran O’Brien, younger brother of Sounders midfielder Leighton O’Brien, is the creative force in the Tacoma side’s midfield. He’s created four assists and tallied three goals on the year. The team is coached by the O’Brien brothers’ father, Fran O’Brien.

Currently second in the PDL Northwest Division standings, the Tide are hoping to use the Sounders match to tune up for the final four matches of their regular season schedule and potentially a playoff match against the BYU Cougars to determine who will represent the Northwest Division in the PDL National Finals Tournament.

Seattle comes into this match riding the high of their first victory in Rochester since 1996. The hard earned road victory has lifted the club to second place in the USL First Division table and the addition of former USL Defender of the year, Taylor Graham to the backline has shifted the focus in Seattle from earning a playoff spot to winning a championship.

The Sounders return to regular season action on July 12th at Qwest Field against the Vancouver Whitecaps in a match that was originally scheduled for Friday July 13th.
