SOUNDERS TRAVEL TO ROCHESTER FOR PRE 4TH OF JULY BATTLE WITH RHINOS
Posted 7/2/2007

The Seattle Sounders traveled to Rochester New York today in advance of tomorrow night’s match against the Rochester Raging Rhinos.

Seattle and Rochester played to a 1-1 draw on May 18th at Qwest Field. With a victory the Sounders will move into second place in the USL First Division standings and be just a point back of lead leading Vancouver.

The Sounders will be without the services of captain Danny Jackson, who has still not completed his green card process and has not returned from his native England. Leighton O’Brien is sidelined by the effects of the concussion that he suffered against Portland in the second round of the U.S. Open Cup and Forward Nathan Knox has not recovered from a hamstring pull suffered on June 15th in Carolina.

Defender Zach Scott will be available for the match, postponing his yellow card accumulation suspension to the July 12th home match against Vancouver.

Sounders midfielder Hugo Alcaraz-Cuellar moved into a tie for second in the USL First Division assists category when he tallied his fourth of the season in the 1-0 victor over Miami FC and goal keeper Chris Eylander moved to within one shutout of the league leaders in that category with his second half heroics against the South Florida side.

Rochester features a three prong attack with Johnny Meyonger, Matthew Delicate and Hamed Diallo who have combined for 30 points so far this season. Their defense is anchored by USL First Division minutes leader Scott Palguta.

Rochester suffered their first loss at home in 2007 Friday night when the Atlanta Silverbacks defeated them 2-0. The match against Seattle is the fifth of a six game home stand for the Rhinos.

The match is the first of two between the clubs in Rochester during the month of July. Seattle will return for the second on July 21st.

The Sounders will be in action Saturday night in Tacoma for an exhibition against Tacoma FC at Curtis High School. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids and are available at the gate.
