SOUNDERS VS IMPACT REMATCH SATURDAY NIGHT
Posted 6/20/2007

The Seattle Sounders will look to avenge their early season 2-0 defeat suffered at the hands of the Montreal Impact on May 20th when the two teams face off at Qwest Field, 7 PM Saturday night.

The Impact have come to the Northwest looking to get back to their winning ways after suffering their first two losses of the season in matches against Portland and Charleston. Their trip begins Thursday night against the Timbers at PGE Park in Portland before the head North for the Saturday night meeting with Seattle.

The Sounders have brought seven of a possible nine points back from a difficult South East themed stretch of road trips that saw them defeat Charleston and Carolina and also earn a draw against Atlanta. The team’s good run of form stretches back to the May 23rd match against Carolina at Qwest Field. They are unbeaten in five matches, recording four wins and one draw.

Sounders captain Danny Jackson has returned to his native England to complete the process of obtaining a green card and is not expected back in Seattle until the June 28th match against Miami FC.

It appears also that the Sounders will be without the services of target forward Nathan Knox, who pulled his hamstring against Carolina. Leighton O’Brien is questionable after suffering a back injury against Banat Arsenal in the U.S. Open Cup match on June 12.

The line-up could be bolstered by the teams assist leader, Hugo Alcaraz-Cuellar, who has missed five matches with an Achilles injury, but has returned to training and is nearing match fitness.

Chris Eylander brings a two match league shutout streak into the game against Montreal. His performance in Carolina earned him USL First Division Team of the Week honors along with Sebastien Le Toux and Jackson.

Seattle could potentially move as high as second place in the league standings with a Victory over Montreal. Three points against the team whose finished with the best regular season record the last two years running will serve as notice to the rest of the league as to the quality of 2007’s Sounders squad.

Next up for the Sounders is a U.S. Open Cup second round match against the Portland Timbers on June 26th at Starfire Sports Entertainment Complex. Tickets for both matches are available through SeattleSounders.net
