SOUNDERS AND ATLANTA MEET SATURDAY NIGHT
Posted 6/8/2007

Saturday night at 4:55pm Pacific time the Seattle Sounders (4-4-3 15 points) will look to extend their three match win streak against an Atlanta Silverbacks (3-4-2 11 points) team that has lost three straight.

The Sounders stumbled out of the gates this season earning just two of a possible 12 points from their first four matches and struggling to earn full points in matches that they were seemingly in control of. It appears now that they’ve righted the ship by playing industrious, physical soccer and capitalizing on goal scoring opportunities.

Atlanta, on the other hand, came flying into the new season losing only once in the first five matches. Forward Daniel Antionuk has been a welcome addition to the squad with three goals and four assists in the early going, but the Silverbacks have scored just twice in the last three matches and lost two consecutive games at Re/max Greater Atlanta Stadium.

Goal Keeper Chris Eylander and midfielder Leighton O’Brien will be available for selection Saturday night after serving suspensions for red cards received in the Carolina and California matches respectively.

Eylander should step back into the starter role after Ben Dragavon filled in with two wins for the club. O’Brien will give Schmetzer valuable options and a difficult decision to make in the midfield after Greg Howes put in a quality midfield performance in O’Brien’s absence and Nathan Knox filled in as a target man and generated numerous chances and a goal in his return to the line-up.

Zach Scott received his fourth yellow card of the season against Charleston placing one booking away from a one match suspension.

The Sounders will return to Seattle after the Atlanta match for the first round of the U.S Open Cup Tuesday night at Starfire Stadium. The match is a double header with the Crossfire Sounders Women. Tickets are $7 and the Women kick off at 6pm with the men’s match following after at 8pm.

Then the Sounders are off to Carolina for a nationally televised match against the Carolina Railhawks on Friday June 15th. Sounders fans are encouraged to start their weekend with the Sounders at Kell’s Irish pub for the 5pm happy hour match.
